Ministerial Decree No. 217 of 2025 "Regulating Tea Packaging Weights and Importation Reporting Requirements"

 Decision
Date of Publishing: 14/01/2026                 Affected Region: Egypt

Ministerial Decision No. 217 of 2025 establishes standardized net weights for tea products sold in the Egyptian market, requiring all companies that import raw tea or operate tea-packing facilities to sell consumer packages in specific weights (25, 40, 50, 100, 225, 250, 500, and 1000 grams) and mandates that tea bags weigh 2 grams each and be sold in packs of 10, 25, or their multiples.

The decision also obliges importers without packing licenses to submit monthly reports to the Central Control Directorate of the Ministry detailing imported quantities, recipients, tax invoices, business licenses, commercial registration, food safety registration, and storage locations. It grants a transition period until 1 April 2026 for selling existing stock packaged under previous rules and provides that violations will be subject to penalties under Article 56 of Commercial Law No. 95 of 1945, while repealing earlier ministerial decisions on tea packaging to unify the regulatory framework.
